René Lerer Community Spirit Scholarship
The René Lerer Community Spirit Scholarship recognizes a high school senior who is the dependent child of a Magellan Health employee and exemplifies community spirit through outstanding leadership and exemplary contributions, and demonstrates a commitment to enriching the lives of others in the community.
Magellan Health established this scholarship program in recognition of René Lerer’s unparalleled commitment to Magellan’s “culture of caring” and for his dedication to establishing the Magellan Cares philosophy. Recipients of the $5,000 René Lerer Community Spirit Scholarship will carry forward his legacy.
A graduating high school senior is eligible to apply for the René Lerer Community Spirit Scholarship if he or she:
• is the dependent child of a full-time or part-time Magellan Health employee with a minimum of one year of employment at the application deadline,
• exemplifies community spirit, and
• plans to attend post-secondary education full time
The recipient must enroll full time as an undergraduate student at a regionally accredited two-year or four-year college, university, or vocational-technical school.
Applications will be evaluated by the St. Louis Community Foundation on the basis of past academic performance, potential for continued success, the quality of the essay, the strength of contributions to the community, and the recommendations. Selection of the recipients and the scholarship amount will be determined by the St. Louis Community Foundation from information provided by the applicant, the school, and the applicant’s recommendations.
