William J. Beatty Scholarship

The William J. Beatty Scholarship “shall be awarded to students or graduates of Sumner High School for the purpose of pursuing college or university work…. it being my wish that the scholarship go to a different person…of African descent… each year.”

Eligibility

  1. graduating senior or graduate of Sumner High School in St. Louis, Missouri
  2. African American
  3. currently enrolled or planning to enroll full time in an accredited U.S. college or university

Selection
The scholarship will be evaluated on the basis of the student’s

  • past academic performance and promise for success in college,
  • the quality of the essay, and
  • the strength of the recommendations.

Eligibility, financial need, and award amount for this scholarship program will be determined by the St. Louis Community Foundation.
