George A. Decker Memorial Scholarship
The George A. Decker Memorial Scholarship is open to students graduating from Festus High School in Jefferson County or Hancock Place High School in St. Louis County who are seeking a post-secondary education on a full-time or part-time basis at a nonprofit, regionally accredited college or university, or a certified trade school or technical school, that confers Associate of Applied Science, Associate or baccalaureate degrees within the State of Missouri.
Recipients may apply for up to three additional years of funding provided they continue to meet eligibility requirements, make satisfactory progress towards degree completion as a full-time student and submit a renewal application to the St. Louis Community Foundation by the July 1 deadline.
Up to 4 $1,000 scholarships are available. This scholarship program was established from the estate of George A. Decker by his wife, Lila L. Decker.
To be eligible for consideration, the student must be academically qualified and have demonstrated an exemplary record of hard work, diligence, persistence, and ambition to succeed. To be academically qualified the new or renewing applicant must demonstrate he or she is meeting or exceeding the necessary academic standards to graduate but primarily applications will be evaluated on the basis of how closely the essay and recommendations demonstrate the applicant’s personal record of hard work, diligence, persistence, and ambition to succeed. Scholarship awards will be sent to the award recipient’s college in August.
Festus High School and Hancock Place High School seniors who have achieved a cumulative 2.5 grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) are encouraged to apply.
Applications will be evaluated on the basis of how closely the essay and recommendations demonstrate the applicant’s personal record of hard work, diligence, persistence, and ambition to succeed.
The George A. Decker Memorial Scholarship program is administered by the St. Louis Community Foundation. All selection and award decisions are the responsibility of the Community Foundation.
