William J. Beatty Scholarship

The William J. Beatty Scholarship was established by Mr. Beatty with the following parameters: “shall be awarded to students or graduates of Sumner High School for the purpose of pursuing college or university work…. it being my wish that the scholarship go to a different person…of African descent… each year.”

Eligibility

  1. graduating senior or graduate of Sumner High School in St. Louis, Missouri
  2. African American
  3. currently enrolled or planning to enroll full-time as an undergraduate at a nonprofit, accredited two or four-year college, university, trade, or technical school in the United States

Selection & Evaluation
The scholarship will be evaluated based on the student’s

  • past academic performance and promise for success in college,
  • the quality of the essay, and
  • the strength of the recommendations.

Incomplete applications will not be considered. Please answer all questions that apply to you, even if they are not marked “required."

Notification
Application status will be changed from submitted to either awarded or denied in June. Applicants can view their status by logging in to their Scholarship Central account.
