Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated - Gamma Omega Chapter Scholarship for Current Undergraduate Students

The Gamma Omega Alberta Gantt/Mattie Harvey Scholarship is made available through the Gamma Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated for a full-time undergraduate student in good academic standing. Established in 2010, this scholarship is made possible by way of gifts made by Mrs. Alberta Gantt, a 75 year member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated and other fundraising efforts. The purpose of this scholarship is to provide financial assistance to degree seeking students who are currently enrolled in a four year college or university and to assist students with successful degree completion.

Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must:

  • Be a full-time undergraduate student currently enrolled in a minimum of 12 credit hours with at least a sophomore standing or beyond at an accredited four year degree-granting institution
  • Have a minimum overall cumulative GPA of at least a 3.0
  • Demonstrate a financial need
  • Demonstrate active involvement in community building on their campus
  • Be a permanent resident of St. Louis City, St. Louis County or St. Charles County, MO

Finalists for this scholarship will be invited to a personal interview.

Funds for this scholarship will be disbursed in FALL 2022.

    1. The recent confirmation of Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson once again placed a spotlight on diverse leadership and representation in institutions of power. Describe the role that access to education has in achieving the status and positions of Justice Jackson and how it might impact people of color.

    2. Climate change is caused primarily by human activities like burning fossil fuels, deforestation, and farming livestock. Scientists warn that the likely rate of change and the earth’s temperature will be much faster over the next century than any climate shift in the past. If climate change continues to advance at an accelerated pace, what will be the consequences for people, and what could be done to mitigate damages to the earth?
