Saint Louis Public Schools Scholarships
For seniors graduating from an SLPS school in 2020, there are several Saint Louis Public Schools Foundation scholarship opportunities. Award amounts vary from $1,000 to $4,000. The scholarships are:
Nahed Chapman Scholarship $1,000, one-time award. GPA: 2.5 or above. Must have attended IWS/NAPA/NCNAA
Nahed Chapman was the executive director of the ESOL Bilingual Migrant Program from 2001-2013. She was a dedicated supporter of English Language Learners in the St. Louis Public Schools and the founder of the newcomer school currently named Nahed Chapman New American Academy in her honor.
Phillip J. Hickey Scholarship
$2,750 per year for four years, totaling $11,500. GPA: 2.5 or above. Eligible students should have financial need.(Recipients may be asked to provide tax return).
Phillip J. Hickey was the superintendent of Saint Louis Public Schools from 1942-1963. Prior to this, he served as principal of Carondelet School (1924) and Madison School (1925). He also held positions at the district office where he served under Special Assignment (1934) and Secretary- Treasurer (1935). Following his term as superintendent, Hickey worked as a special consultant for Saint Louis Public Schools in 1964.
Sol M. Glaser Scholarship $1,000, one-time award. GPA: Between 2.5 and 3.0.
Taylor Family Soldan Alumni Scholarship One $1,000 scholarship, potentially renewable for up to four years upon showing progress toward degree at a public or non-profit institution, including non-profit trade school.Must be graduating from Soldan and have a GPA of 2.0 or above.
This scholarship was started by siblings Kia and Kurly Taylor. Both are proud alumni of Soldan; Kia graduated in 2009 and Kurly in 2012.
Lexington Elementary School – Barbara Anderson Scholarship $1,000, one time award. Must have attended Lexington Elementary. GPA: 2.5 or above.
Dr. Barbara A. Anderson was a motivated and diligent principal at Lexington Elementary school.
The Sandra Dianne House Health Care Scholarship One $500 scholarship, potentially renewable for up to four years upon showing progress toward degree at a public or non-profit institution, including non-profit trade school. GPA: 3.0 or above. Must be pursuing a degree in healthcare.
This scholarship is named in loving memory of Sandra House by her family and SDH Health Services.
Charles Gallagher Sr. Scholarship One $7,000 scholarship potentially renewable for up to four years upon showing progress toward post-secondary degree. Soldan High School students interested in Business Administration No suspensions, 92% attendance.
Mr. Gallagher is a Soldan High School alumna. He has long supported the high school. He had a distinguished career in business and ownership with United Fruit and Produce.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL AWARDS:
Applicants must be current high school seniors attending one of the following schools:
Carnahan High School of the Future, Central VPA High School, Cleveland NJROTC Academy, Clyde C. Miller Career Academy, Collegiate School of Medicine & Bioscience, Gateway STEM High School, Innovative Concept Academy, McKinley CLA High School, Metro A&C High School, Northwest Academy of Law, Roosevelt High School, Soldan IS High School, Sumner High School, and Vashon High School.
