Northwest High School Scholarships
This application is open to current Northwest High School seniors. Please read the questions carefully to ensure you answer the questions associated with the scholarships for which you wish to be considered. Each scholarship is a one time, non-renewable scholarship.
This application covers the following scholarships:
Northwest Education Association Scholarship
Open to graduating seniors who will enroll in a vocational school, community college or university with the intention of earning a degree or vocational certificate.
Applicants must have a 3.0 cumulative GPA after 7 semesters
Priority will be given to applicants pursuing a career in education.
A screening committee will review the applications and select candidates for interviews. Selected students will be notified of the time, date and place for interviews. (Usually conducted the week after the scholarship application due date). The scholarship will be awarded at Senior Awards Night. A first and second runner-up will be selected for the scholarship. If the recipient does not proceed with his/her education plans as stated in the application for any reason, he/she will forfeit the scholarship to the first runner-up.
Northwest Student Council Leadership Award
This award is designed to recognize two senior students (one female, one male) for their leadership skills and overall citizenship.
Recipients will be announced at Senior Awards Night.
NHS Character Scholarship
The NHS Character Scholarship is an award given to two students who have demonstrated the character during their high school years. These students have been an example to others, a positive part of their community and will continue to represent the pride of Northwest High School.
Open to graduating seniors who will enroll in a college, university, or other tuition-based postsecondary training.
Applicants should be students in good standing who have positive school behavior. (This will be verified through school discipline records.)
Please note that portions of recipients’ essays may be read at the Senior Awards Night.
NHS Alumni Association Scholarship
This is a one-time, non-renewable scholarship
Checks will be delivered to the student, payable to the college/university, in July.
Open to graduating seniors who will enroll in a 4-year undergraduate program for the upcoming Fall semester.
Northwest MSTA Community Teachers Association Scholarship
The scholarship will be awarded to any NHS senior attending a two or four year college.
Any college major is acceptable. Graduate is not required to be an education major.
Members of the Missouri State Teachers Association – Northwest Community Teachers will review the applications.
The scholarship will be announced at the Senior Awards night.
The scholarship check will be mailed to the student’s home address after receipt of proof of college enrollment or textbook receipts.

- If you are applying for the NORTHWEST STUDENT COUNCIL LEADERSHIP AWARD, write an essay (300 words or less) that addresses how your leadership skills are outstanding. Please include how you are a good citizen and exhibit exemplary character.
- If you are applying for the NHS ALUMNI ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIP, write an essay that details "How you will continue to demonstrate the "Once a Lion; Always a Lion" motto after high school.
- If you are applying for the NORTHWEST MSTA COMMUNITY TEACHERS ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIP, please indicate if your parent is a member of the MSTA.(Membership is not required to apply for or earn the scholarship).
- Northwest High School Recommendation: Enter the name and e-mail address of a teacher who will submit a letter of recommendation on your behalf. NOTE: As the applicant, it is your responsibility to inform that person to watch for an email sent on your behalf that will explain how to complete this process.
- Northwest High School SECOND Recommendation: Enter the name and e-mail address of a counselor, employer, or other similarly qualified individual (non-teacher, non-family member) who will submit a letter of recommendation on your behalf. NOTE: As the applicant, it is your responsibility to inform that person to watch for an email sent on your behalf that will explain how to complete this process.
