Purdy Emerging Leaders Scholarship
The Purdy Emerging Leaders Scholarship from the Missouri Scholarship & Loan Foundation is named in honor of Allan Walker Purdy. This program provides merit-based scholarships to emerging leaders who are outstanding students and who have the need for additional resources for higher education. This scholarship supports candidates who demonstrate leadership, character and academic performance. Additionally, these students have a vision, are eager to make their contribution to the world and have the work ethic to bring their dreams to fruition.
Applicants will be evaluated on the basis of academic performance, leadership potential, and character. Selected students will be those who have a vision, are eager to make their contribution to the world, and have the work ethic to bring their dreams to fruition. Unmet financial need will also be considered.
Eligibility
Applicants must:
- Be a Missouri resident.
- Be an undergraduate sophomore, junior or senior attending a Missouri 4-year or 2-year higher education institution for the 2022-2023 academic year. Click here to see eligible schools list.
- Be enrolled full-time, unless enrolled in final semester prior to degree completion.
- Making Satisfactory Academic Progress as defined by the school.
- Generally, a cumulative college GPA of 2.50 or higher is required.
- Student’s EFC range as determined by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) will factor into decision. Unmet need will also be a factor.
This application requires one reference. The reference should be from an instructor, advisor, supervisor or other similarly qualified individual who can speak to instances where you have demonstrated leadership. Your application may not be considered if the reference is not submitted.
Award recipients will be notified by mid-July 2022.
This scholarship is renewable for a maximum of three years. Recipients must continue to meet the eligibility requirements, maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.50, demonstrate continued campus/community involvement, and otherwise maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress as defined by your school.

If awarded the scholarship, the amount may be reduced if your unmet need (i.e., your Cost of Attendance minus other scholarships and grants) is less than the scholarship.

Mr. Purdy came from humble beginnings and overcame many barriers to further his education and demonstrated leadership throughout his education and career.
