Richelle S. Clark Scholarship - Saint Louis Metropolitan Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
The Richelle S. Clark Scholarship represents the Power of Delta’s 22 Founders by awarding up to $1,000 for tuition, books, or living expenses to an African-American female undergraduate student or high school senior applying to college/university pursuing a career in healthcare. This scholarship encourages women to continue a pursuit of excellence throughout their scholastic endeavors.
Richelle S Clark was a Charter member of the Saint Louis Metropolitan Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Soror Clark had an impeccable record of leadership and advocacy for quality public health as a Nurse. Throughout her career, she was committed to community health in St. Louis. She served as the assistant director of health and hospitals for the City of St. Louis Department of Health and has held a number of other healthcare positions within local hospitals, agencies and the city school district. She worked more than 10 years overseeing health services for St. Louis Public Schools followed by serving as co-director of the Center of Community and Health Partnerships with The Institute of Public Health at Washington University. As a charter member of St. Louis Metropolitan Alumnae Chapter, she led with grace, kindness, generosity, patience and tenacity. Her commitment to Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. was immeasurable. She was truly a jewel to our sorority and her legacy will live on.
Eligibility Criteria
- Female student
- African-American
- Undergraduate student currently attending a 4-year college/university, 2-year community college or high school senior applying for a 4-year college/university, 2-year community college pursuing a career in healthcare.
- If college student: Enrolled full-time (at least 12 credit hours)
- If high school senior: acceptance to a 4-year college/university, 2-year community college
- 2.75 GPA or higher
- Current official transcript (through Fall/Winter 2024)
- Minimum 500-word essay: please discuss your academic and career goals, and provide a situation where you demonstrated selflessness to your fellow man/woman. In this situation, describe how you empowered them while showing compassion.
- 1 letter of recommendation from a teacher, professor, or professional reference
- Completed at least 40 hours of community service in the last 24 months (verification letter must be on official letterhead with a supervisor’s signature)
- Resident of the St. Louis Metropolitan area – St. Louis city, the Missouri counties of St. Louis, Franklin, Jefferson, Lincoln, St. Charles, or Warren, and the Illinois counties of Bond, Calhoun, Clinton, Jersey, Macoupin, Madison, Monroe, or St. Clair.
Letter of Recommendation/Service Verification Guidance
Letter of Recommendation: Needs to speak to: the length of time the recommender has known you; your personal characteristics and leadership skills/abilities; your achievements; and the public service activities in which you are/have been involved.
Service Verification: This should be an actual letter and not just a service log. Please ask the person supplying your verification letter to speak to the length of time you’ve been involved with the organization (noting exact # of volunteer hours) and the details of your involvement, including but not limited to: your roles/responsibilities, leadership skills, and impact.
