Saint Louis Public Schools Scholarships
For seniors graduating from an SLPS school in 2022, there are several Saint Louis Public Schools Foundation scholarship opportunities. Award amounts vary from $1,000 to $4,000. The scholarships are:
Nahed Chapman Scholarship $1,000, one-time award.
GPA: 2.5 or above. Must have attended IWS/NAPA/NCNAA
Nahed Chapman was the executive director of the ESOL Bilingual Migrant Program from 2001-2013. She was a dedicated supporter of English Language Learners in the St. Louis Public Schools and the founder of the newcomer school currently named Nahed Chapman New American Academy in her honor.
Phillip J. Hickey Scholarship $2,750 per year for four years, totaling $11,500.
GPA: 2.5 or above. Eligible students should have financial need – will be required to upload a W2 or income tax return..
Phillip J. Hickey was the superintendent of Saint Louis Public Schools from 1942-1963. Prior to this, he served as principal of Carondelet School (1924) and Madison School (1925). He also held positions at the district office where he served under Special Assignment (1934) and Secretary- Treasurer (1935). Following his term as superintendent, Hickey worked as a special consultant for Saint Louis Public Schools in 1964.
Taylor Family Soldan Alumni Scholarship $1,000, potentially renewable for up to four years upon showing progress toward degree at a public or non-profit institution, including non-profit trade school.
GPA:2.0 or above. Must be graduating from Soldan.
This scholarship was started by siblings Kia and Kurly Taylor. Both are proud alumni of Soldan; Kia graduated in 2009 and Kurly in 2012.
Lexington Elementary School – Barbara Anderson Scholarship $1,000, one time award.
GPA: 2.5 or above. Must have attended Lexington Elementary.
Dr. Barbara A. Anderson was a motivated and diligent principal at Lexington Elementary school.
The Sandra Dianne House Health Care Scholarship $500, potentially renewable for up to four years upon showing progress toward degree at a public or non-profit institution, including non-profit trade school.
GPA: 3.0 or above. Must be pursuing a degree in healthcare.
This scholarship is named in loving memory of Sandra House by her family and SDH Health Services.
Honig Family Memorial Scholarship $1,000 one time award.
GPA: 2.5 or above. Must be graduating from Vashon.
The funds for this scholarship are from the estate of Mrs. Helga Honig. She and her family are pleased to assist graduating seniors from Saint Louis Public Schools (Vashon High School).
Jo Jo White Memorial Scholarship of Character and Leadership $500, potentially renewable for up to four years upon showing progress toward degree at a public or non-profit institution, including non-profit trade school.
GPA: 2.75 or higher. Special consideration to students from McKinley, Vashon, or planning to attend University of Kansas.
Joseph Henry White earned his legendary nickname “Jo Jo” here in St. Louis playing basketball and attending SLPS schools. While he had a storied history as a Boston Celtic, Jo Jo White truly believed that a strong character, leadership skills and community involvement are every bit as important as playing basketball. Before being drafted by the Boston Celtics, he played at McKinley and Vashon High Schools before attending the University of Kansas.
The GP M.A.D.E Scholarship $2,000, renewable with 2.0 GPA and good standing. Seniors from any SLPS High School.
GPA: 2.5 or above. Financial need. Must be US citizen and resident of Missouri. Must attend college in Missouri. May require an interview
The GP M.A.D.E. Foundation, Inc.started by Coach Gary Pinkel, is a non-profit 501©(3) organization, established to provide financial assistance to young people facing difficult challenges.
Lottie M. Sleets Scholars $1,500 one time award
GPA: 2.5 or above. Must be a FEMALE student graduating from Vashon. Preference given to students who plan to attend an HBCU.
Lottie M. Sleets and her husband, James, dedicated nearly 30 years of their lives to foster care, providing love and support to children, with a strong focus on education.
I Do It For Her Scholarship $500 per semester, up to 8 semesters for a total of $4,000
GPA: 2.5 or above.
This scholarship honors that truth by selecting one student who understands the importance of higher education and is ready to take on the challenges that earning a college degree requires. Understanding that selfless service to others in need is just as important as any academic degree, this scholarship also includes a volunteering requirement that the chosen student will need to meet each semester.
Victoria Betts Scholarship $1,000 one time award
GPA: 3.0 or above. Must be graduating from Clyde C. Miller Career Academy Planning to attend a four year university.
Victoria Betts is a proud 2016 alumna of Clyde C. Miller Career Academy. She went on to attend Georgia State University in Atlanta, GA and study Accounting and Finance. She is now an auditor at Ernst & Young (EY).
The Ben Blewitt Memorial Scholarship $2,500 one time award
GPA: 2.5 or above.
The funds for this scholarship are from the estate of Mr. Ben Blewitt. He and his family are pleased to assist students from Saint Louis Public Schools.
The Dr. Otis A. Jackson Scholarship $1,000 one time award
GPA: 3.0 or above. Must be graduating from Vashon High School. African American. Planning to attend a 4-year college or university. Preference given to those studying education.
Dr. Otis A. Jackson was a man who found his God-given purpose by empowering young people for success. Otis attended Vashon High School and excelled in academics and swimming. His love for Vashon and its students led him to return after graduating from college to teach mathematics. After earning his Ph.D. in education, he spent the majority of his professional career as the Executive Vice President of INROADS.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL AWARDS:
Applicants must be current high school seniors attending one of the following schools:
Carnahan High School of the Future, Central VPA High School, Clyde C. Miller Career Academy, Collegiate School of Medicine & Bioscience, Gateway STEM High School, Innovative Concept Academy, McKinley CLA High School, Metro A&C High School, Roosevelt High School, Soldan IS High School, Sumner High School, and Vashon High School.
