Pearls of Power Foundation and Delta Delta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority inc. Scholarships

The Pearls of Power Foundation, Incorporated and Delta Delta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. are pleased to announce they will be awarding multiple scholarships to students in the area.

The scholarships are the:
1) Susie Haire Mann Scholarship – The recipients will be African American female or male students who will attend a Historically Black College or University (HBCU)
2) Pearls of Power Excellence in Education Scholarship – The recipient will be a student who has exemplified outstanding academic achievement.
3) Pearls of Power Excellence in Leadership and Community Service Scholarship
The recipient must demonstrate leadership and excellence exemplified through academic achievement and extracurricular activities including commitment to community service. Must provide documentation/verification of leadership achievements (Serves as elected or appointed officer, committee chairman, letter from sponsor familiar with the student’s work. Must provide documentation/verification of volunteer community service demonstrated within the community and at school (newspaper articles, letters, programs, certificates). The recipient of this scholarship may be an entering freshman or current sophomore, junior or senior in college.
4) Tracy Y. Gardner Memorial Scholarship – The recipient must be a student that resides in the city of East St. Louis or attends East St. Louis Senior High School. They must plan to attend a 2- or 4-year college or university and have maintained a 2.5 GPA on a 4-point scale. They must provide evidence of school and/or community involvement.
5) The Delbert and Esther Loy Memorial Scholarship- The recipient must be a scholar athlete, or a scholar actively involved in two or more extracurricular activities.
6) The Irene Loy Excellence in Business Administration – The recipient must be a student who in majors in business or a business-related field (public relations, communication, advertising, sales, marketing etc.)
7) Multiple one-year academic scholarships and one four year continuing education scholarship will also be awarded

To apply for ten of the scholarships, the applicant must be a high school senior who will enroll for the first time in a four-year accredited college or university that is located in the United States. One other scholarship is for a high school senior who will enroll for the first time in a two or four year institution. Two of the scholarships may be awarded to students who are continuing their education.

    1. Reflect on a time when you faced a challenge, a belief or idea. What prompted your thinking? What was the outcome?

    2. Have you accomplished something that you are proud of? Discuss what you did and why you are proud of it.

    3. What skills and qualities do you think college bound students need if they are to be successful at the University level?
