St. Louis Community Foundation Multi-Opportunity Application

Students who submit this application will be considered for any of the following scholarships for which they meet the eligibility criteria. The award amounts for these scholarships are based on the recipients’ unmet financial need. The scholarships are renewable if the student remains enrolled full-time, makes satisfactory progress toward a degree, and continues to have unmet financial need.
William J. Beatty Scholarship
The William J. Beatty Scholarship was established by Mr. Beatty with the following parameters: “shall be awarded to students or graduates of Sumner High School for the purpose of pursuing college or university work…. it being my wish that the scholarship go to a different person…of African descent… each year.” Mr. Beatty graduated from the University of Chicago with an A.B. degree in1920. He was a history teacher at Sumner High School for over 35 years.
Eligibility: Applicants must:

  • be a graduating senior at Sumner High School in St. Louis, Missouri.
  • be Black or African American.
  • be planning to enroll full-time as an undergraduate at a nonprofit, accredited two or four-year college, university, trade, or technical school in the United States.
  • demonstrate unmet financial need at the college or university the student will attend. In general, unmet financial need will be defined as the difference between the cost of attendance and the sum of the student’s grant aid from other sources plus the Student Aid Index (as determined by the student’s Free Application for Federal Student Aid)

St. Louis Community Foundation Investing for the Future Scholarship
The St. Louis Community Foundation Investing for the Future Scholarship is a community-funded program that supports area graduating high school seniors. The program was established to ensure more low-income and first-generation students have the support they need to complete postsecondary education. This scholarship is open to graduating high school seniors or recent GED/HiSET recipients who are planning to continue their education at an accredited two-year or four-year college or university or a trade/technical school in the United States.
Eligibility: Applicants must:

  • be a senior graduating from a St. Louis area high school or a student who recently earned a GED/HiSET. The area is defined as the Missouri counties of St. Louis, St. Charles, Lincoln, Warren, Franklin, Jefferson, and the City of St. Louis, and the Illinois counties of St. Clair, Madison, Bond, Calhoun, Clinton, Jersey, Monroe, and Macoupin.
  • be planning to enroll full-time as an undergraduate at a nonprofit, accredited two or four-year college, university, trade, or technical school in the United States.
  • demonstrate unmet financial need at the college or university the student will attend. In general, unmet financial need will be defined as the difference between the cost of attendance and the sum of the student’s grant aid from other sources plus the Student Aid Index (as determined by the student’s Free Application for Federal Student Aid)

Glenn L. Moller, Jr. Memorial Scholarship
The Glenn L. Moller, Jr. Memorial Scholarship is for students from the City of St. Louis and St. Louis County who have overcome adversity to prepare for future success. Preference will be given to applicants who have been touched and affected by the programs of Unleashing Potential. Unleashing Potential was previously known as Neighborhood Houses.
Eligibility: Applicants must:

  • be a resident of the City of St. Louis or St. Louis County
  • be a graduating high school senior or have recently earned a GED/HiSET.
  • upload a transcript that demonstrates a college preparatory academic record and potential for success.
  • be planning to enroll full-time as an undergraduate at a nonprofit, accredited two or four-year college, university, trade, or technical school in the United States.
  • demonstrate unmet financial need at the college or university the student will attend. In general, unmet financial need will be defined as the difference between the cost of attendance and the sum of the student’s grant aid from other sources plus the Student Aid Index (as determined by the student’s Free Application for Federal Student Aid)
    Participation in an Unleashing Potential program is a benefit but not a requirement.

John D. Perry Scholarship
The John D. Perry Scholarship will be awarded to a student attending the University of Missouri.
Eligibility: Applicants must:

  • be a senior graduating from a St. Louis area high school (Missouri counties of St. Louis, St. Charles, Lincoln, Warren, Franklin, Jefferson, and the City of St. Louis, and the Illinois counties of St. Clair, Madison, Bond, Calhoun, Clinton, Jersey, Monroe, and Macoupin).
  • be planning to enroll full-time as an undergraduate at the University of Missouri (Columbia, Kansas City, St. Louis or Missouri S&T).
  • demonstrate unmet financial need at the college or university the student will attend. In general, unmet financial need will be defined as the difference between the cost of attendance and the sum of the student’s grant aid from other sources plus the Student Aid Index (as determined by the student’s Free Application for Federal Student Aid)

William C. and Bertha Black Rhoda Scholarship
To honor graduates of Vashon High School, the William C. and Bertha Black Rhoda Scholarship Fund was established in 1994 from the estate of William Clarence Rhoda in memory of his wife, Bertha Black Rhoda. In his will, William Rhoda indicated that the scholarships were to be used for the “higher education of negro men and women who reside in the St. Louis Metropolitan area who would otherwise be unable to obtain the benefit of such education in colleges and professional schools located in the United States…graduates of Vashon High School shall receive special consideration for scholarships. In selecting scholars, the St. Louis Community Foundation shall consider the character and ambition of such negro applicants who need not necessarily be in the upper third of their class scholastically.”
Eligibility: Applicants must:

  • be a senior in high school who is graduating this May. Vashon High School seniors will be given special consideration.
  • be a resident of the St. Louis metropolitan area.
  • be Black or African American.
  • be planning to enroll full-time as an undergraduate at a nonprofit, accredited two or four-year college, university, trade, or technical school in the United States.
  • demonstrate unmet financial need at the college or university the student will attend. In general, unmet financial need will be defined as the difference between the cost of attendance and the sum of the student’s grant aid from other sources plus the Student Aid Index (as determined by the student’s Free Application for Federal Student Aid)

Rio Vista
Up to ten Rio Vista Scholarships are awarded to students graduating high schools in the St. Louis Public School District or charter schools, Jennings High School, or Riverview Gardens High School who demonstrate strength of character and an attitude that will lead to success. Recipients must demonstrate financial need and enroll full-time at an accredited Missouri nonprofit two-year or four-year college, university, or technical college.

  • be a graduating senior from a St. Louis Public School, a charter school within the City of St. Louis, Jennings High School, or Riverview Gardens High School
  • submit a transcript that shows a college preparatory academic record and potential for success
  • be planning to enroll full-time as an undergraduate at a nonprofit, accredited, Missouri nonprofit two-year or four-year college, university, or technical college.
  • demonstrate financial need at an eligible college or university In general, unmet financial need will be defined as the difference between the cost of attendance and the sum of the student’s grant aid from other sources plus the Student Aid Index (as determined by the student’s Free Application for Federal Student Aid)

Curt Smith Sporting Goods Scholarship
The Curt Smith Sporting Goods Scholarship program will annually award renewable scholarships to an academically qualified high school senior from the St. Louis Metropolitan area who played high school sports.
Eligibility Applicants must:

  • be a graduating high school senior.
  • have played high school sports in the eligible geographic area ((Missouri counties of St. Louis, St. Charles, Lincoln, Warren, Franklin, Jefferson, and the City of St. Louis, and the Illinois counties of St. Clair, Madison, Bond, Calhoun, Clinton, Jersey, Monroe, and Macoupin).
  • have a transcript that demonstrates a college preparatory academic record and potential for success.
  • be planning to enroll full-time as an undergraduate at a nonprofit, accredited two or four-year college, university, trade, or technical school in the United States.
  • demonstrate unmet financial need at the college or university the student will attend.

Selection for all scholarships awarded from this application
Recipients will be selected by the St. Louis Community Foundation based on the student’s commitment to, and academic preparation for, higher education; the quality of the essay(s); determination of financial need, and consideration of unusual circumstances. Incomplete applications will not be considered. Please answer all questions that apply to you, even if they are not marked “required.”
Preference will be given to students who have not previously completed a Bachelor’s Degree.

Renewal
Recipients may reapply for award consideration for a maximum of four years of undergraduate funding provided they continue to make satisfactory progress toward a degree and continue to meet the eligibility criteria. Please note that because the award amounts are based on available funding and financial need that can change from year to year, the amount of this scholarship award may change if a recipient applies for renewal awards in years to come.

Notification
Application status will be changed from submitted to either offered or denied in June. Applicants can view their status by logging in to their Scholarship Central account. Funds will be mailed to the recipients’ schools in August.
