Anthony Armstrong 88 Foundation Scholarship
The mission of the Anthony Armstrong 88 Foundation is to honor and celebrate the life of Anthony Armstrong through scholarships bearing his name and thus offering opportunities of higher education to children otherwise unable to attend. Criteria for scholarships may include, but are not limited to, embodiment of the spirit and values of Anthony Armstrong such as scholastic achievement, organized athletics and interest in sports or a sports related profession.
Scholarship Details
The scholarship will each be awarded to one high school senior who achieves the highest cumulative score from the selection process. All applicants that meet the eligibility requirements are encouraged to apply. To be eligible, you must:
-Be in your senior year of high school at one of the St. Louis area schools on this list
-Have a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 or higher
-Be accepted to an accredited college or university and planning to attend full-time (at least 12 credit hours per semester)
-Be interested in an athletic related profession or participated in athletics during High School
-Be recommended by two representatives of the high school you attend and one member of the local community
Renewable Feature (2nd-4th year of college)
-You must continue your full-time attendance (at least 12 credit hours per semester) at an accredited college or university; and
-You must have a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 at such college or university;
The $5,000.00 scholarship is a competitive renewable scholarship open to all St. Louis area students in the first year amount of $750.00. Recipients meeting the established criteria can renew the scholarship for up to four (4) years increasing as follows: $1000.00 in year 2; $1,500.00 in year 3 and $1,750.00 in year 4. Applicants will be considered by the Foundation for one (1) initial scholarship this year.
Review and Selection Process
Once the application submission process has been closed, the Anthony Armstrong 88 Foundation Board Members will collect all application packets and begin the selection process. The Board Members will review the submitted information and provide a score based upon the following criteria:
- Accuracy - Content
- Neatness of work - Personality
- Completeness of packet
Each of the four components of the application packet will be assigned a score, based upon the above assessment. The application with the highest score will be selected as the recipient of the scholarship award. The scoring system with points possible for each component is as follows:
● Component One – Complete and accurate application (5 points)
● Component Two – Content of Application (20 points)
● Component Three – Essay (40 points)
● Component Four – Transcripts (15 points)
● Component Five – Recommendation Form (20 points)
Note: The Board Members may request additional information or a formal interview.
The award candidate should be notified prior to the end of 2019-2020 school year.
Confidentiality
All replies, applications, score sheets and deliberations will be held in strictest confidence by the Foundation and will not be shared with any party including the applicant.
Decisions
All decisions of the Foundation Board are made in the sole discretion of the Board and are final. Explanations are not considered appropriate and appeals will not be considered.

Award Notification
Once the Board Members have identified and selected the award candidates, your school will be notified. Additionally, they will receive a formal congratulations letter from the Anthony Armstrong 88 Foundation.
Award Disbursement
Once an award candidate has been notified, the Anthony Armstrong 88 Foundation will process the payment paperwork. The initial check for $750.00 will be made payable to the student’s college. In rare instances, the check may be made payable to the student or the student’s parents. Prior to distribution, the award candidates will be required to provide proof of acceptance and admission to their respective college or university together with any other information deemed necessary by the Foundation.
